Mixed media sculpture with HD Video, fabric, stuffing, cardboard, nylon cord, fishing line, empty nitrous oxide cartridges, 86 x 42 x 9 inches
Back when Cameron Delicious had that pit of potatoes in his yard that I made love is a banquet in (see potatoes macabre), I also filmed the potato lover in the pit, gesticulating wildly and desperately with her eyes to the heavens. Inspired by the Judgement Card (XX) in the Tarot‘s major aracana, I was thinking about endings, but also new beginnings. When I started making this abject, tatty rainbow sculpture out of fabric scraps from old art projects and whip-it canisters I was collecting from my neighborhood sidewalks, it seemed like the video would fit right in with this raw version of an icon of hope. I liked how the rainbow imagery echoed the biblical theme of redemption, being as it was the symbol shown to Noah as a promise arfter the floods, another classic tale of destruction and rebirth.
